Front end clunking
What's up everyone? I'm having a problem trying to figure out my situation. First off, my car kinda was stuck in a flood back in November. Lol. Water was pretty much up to the oil pan. After that, my steering started to get funky and sloppy. I started replacing parts by parts for my front end. New inner and outer tie rod, rack end bushing, hard race LCA bushings, moog lower ball joints, new kyb shocks on omni sleeves (not lowered anymore, fit 3-4 fingers between fender and tire), replaced both axles. Got an alignment but still clunking and sloppy. I asked the technician and they said everything was align, not sure why it's still the way it is. I am getting new tires sometimes this month also. Anyone ever had this problem? What else can it be, it's driving me nuts. Especially when it rain!
new motor mounts lately? fixed mine on the cheap with window weld:
2 Dow U 428 Plus Windshield Urethane Primerless Adhesive Glue Sealant Window | eBay
nice and firm now but not crazy hard vibing.

You got the rack end bushing correct.
You still need to adjust the pinion. It's at the bottom of the rack. You need a large wrench, a plumber's wrench or channel locks work.
Theres instructions in the manual. Or Google it. Don't over tighten, expect to do it more than once to get it just right.

seems like you might be on the right path for sorting out the steering slop.
'clunk' could mean a lot of different things though.
When do you hear the clunk happen - when parked, driving, braking, turning, over bumps, etc?
can you make the clunk happen or is it just sort of random?

I'm having mixed feelings that it might be bad rack and pinion. I had a bmw 740 a few years back and it started acting up. I also replaced the whole front end suspension and it ended up to the a bad rack and pinion. Is there a way to diagnose it? Or what are my percentage of having a bad rack and pinion?

I rechecked my motor mounts and the rear is shaking. I'm going to reseal it and possibly get new tires this weekend. Plus another alignment. Hopefully it'll solve my problem.
I have yet to replace my crossmember bushings. Will try that also. And my upper control arms are a year old skunk2. Can it possibly go bad already?
this clunking noise is driving me nuts. New rear mount and noise is still there. It's only coming from driver side. Put my car on Jacks and pretty much disassembled everything to double check if anything were shot or loose. And all checks out fine. Any other possibilities. I'm probably getting some new crossmember bushings today and see if that'll help.

are you inspecting for clunks by shaking the suspension? you should be able to find sources clunks that way. could be ball joints.
otherwise its all just guesses over the internet diagnosing noises.

I'm inspecting each part separately and yes, just by tugging on it as hard as I can from the spaces I have. Ball joints and tie rods have no plays at all. I'll check again
When I got my crx, the steering gearbox bolts were all loose, as well as a couple rear-subframe bolts. After tightening them up, there was still a clunk. Didn't finally resolve it until I removed the front subframe, cleaned it's mating surface with the chassis, and replaced the radius rod bushings. I had an off throttle and braking clunk that must have either been the subframe shifting or a bad radius rod bushing.

Finally figured out my problem. I was starting to lean towards my wheel bearings going bad but my wheels would not move no matter how hard i tried shaking it while it was on jack stands. I even had 3 other people shook it for me, no play or movement. So I just decided to replace it since I've replaced so many parts already. And that clunking stopped. An easy fixed turned to whole front end suspension replace lol. Oh well
do you still have the old bearing?
did you ever rotate the wheel or can you feel if the bearing is rough when you turn it? it wont be exactly like how it was when it was installed so it may not be the best test.
but it just goes to show you dont test wheel bearings by shaking the wheel. thats not the right test for bearings.
