Car wont start

Thought it was battery connector. But it still wont start! A friend said something about a sensor In gear shift? My gear shift can change gear but not understanding wat he means, any suggestions?

on automatics there's an interlock switch, if it's manual
there's a clutch switch and the stopper on the pedal will
break eventually= no start.
