Okay so I was trying to replace my control arms to a new aftermarket control arms, subframe, tie bar on my 1993 Honda Civic hatchback DX and the bolt holding my suspension snapped of and now I need to figure out how to remove it so I can replace the arms and I will need to figure out how to replace that bolt since my kit doesn't come with bolts for those parts
I am the lower control arm busted bolt master. been there done that
go to napa, they will have the lower bushing in stock. go to advanced/autozone and get the giant c-clamp ball joint remover.
cut off the bolt head of the strut and get it out of the way. use the ball joint remover and a big socket to remove the bushing. once the bushing is out, replace it with the new one using the giant c clamp. use a nut and bolt from the hardware store to secure the strut
Take the strut out of the car so you can work on it easier. You may be able to save the welded on nut by cutting the metal part of the bushing (and bolt) close to the arm on the other side, remove arm, then heat/twist the stub of the bolt out of the nut.
Use car bolts they are stronger than hardware store bolts. Any decent parts store has bins of metric bolts and nuts in various sizes.
Which bolt sheered off? The one that goes through the rear trailing arm or the strut?
In your picture it look like the strut, but your drawing has rear trailing arm labeled.
If it's the bolt going through the strut (appears to be that way) just cut the bushing and bolt inside of the strut arm. And I mean cut right down the side of the lower control arm using a reciprocating saw. Leave enough of the bushing so that you can use channel-locks on the remainder of it that's seized with the bolt and turn the thing loose.
As far as bolt replacements, you can always order new ones through Honda using an online dealership.
this happened to me as well.
used a cutoff tool and bought 6 new brand x lower shock nuts/bolts off fleabay.
still have a few spares on the bench so pm for free replacements! woot! 8)
