B20Z2 & B16A2 - Engine Management Question
I have read: https://honda-tech.com/forums/all-motor-naturally-aspirated-44/how-build-%22reliable%22-lsvtec-b20vtec-1676914/
i have a pretty good understanding of what I need for the build. I have a few questions however. I have a p28ecu. Is it best to get it chipped or buy Hondata s300? Thankyou in advance.

Don't spend all your hard earned money building a nice engine and then dick around with chips and CROME free. It's the biggest mistake most people make around here, IMO. NepTune or s300 at the minimum, step up to an AEM Infinity if you can afford it and/or plan on moving to COP.

For what you are building, NepTune RTP or s300 are fine. Get a package from one of the shops that will reman the ecu for you, these are 22+ year old ecus now and need to have some capacitors replace and get a good look-over by someone who knows what they are looking at.

I agree with all the above comments.
However, the one thing everyone seems to forget to suggest is DO NOT just go and buy whatever system you decide on. The very first step is to find a reputable tuner in your area that you will have tune your car, and ask them which system THEY prefer. and buy THAT system. A tune is only as good as the tuner. And different tuners are better with different systems. IE: I can do crome or hondata, and of course prefer hondata, but crome is in fact plenty good for many different setups. Neptune however I have very little experience with and don't know the software all that well, so I tend to strongly suggest hondata over neptune, especially considering the price is quite similar and hondata is better in many ways. You may find tuners that prefer neptune over hondata though strictly due to experience with the software and being more proficient with it.

Correct. Build the motor however you want. it doesn't hurt to ask your tuner what they recommend though, as well as the machine shop that would be having their hands on any aspect of it. Sometimes it's good to get the opinions of multiple people regarding the engine build. you can get mixed opinions and determine for yourself which you prefer. also, some people may only comment on what TO get, and some may only comment on what NOT to get. so you can collectively use all info gathered.
