The first car I've ever owned was a 1984 Honda Prelude. It was owned by my great grandmother and she maintained it well throughout the years she owned it. After she couldn't drive anymore it ended up being parked in her garage for about 15 years until my grandpa decided to use it while his daily driver was being painted.
It took quite a bit of money to get it running again. It leaked antifreeze from the dual carbs onto the alternator, and the alternator had to be replaced. After some valves were replaced it was ready to roll again, and that summer (2015) my grandpa decided to give it to me. (These photos are from Sep. 2016)
I never had an interest for this car until i finally drove it. It handles well, feels smooth, and rides quiet. After all, it only had 45k miles on it at the time, so of course it felt that way. From then on I began to learn how to work on cars with the help of my experienced friend. With many old parts replaced over the months, like the spark plug wires from '84, it was running even better.
To keep this car in its original condition, I decided to buy a new daily driver a few months ago. It's a 91 civic
I bought this car for $750. It has 242k miles. It recently had a new clutch, flywheel, timing belt, water pump, ignition system, fuel filter, main engine seals, and some other things I can't remember. It started its life on the east coast and made it to Washington somehow... So far I replaced the drive axle because it snapped, did ignition timing, had the alternator rebuilt, took out cancerous sub wiring, cleaned out all the weather seals, and new front brakes. This weekend I sealed up the taillight gaskets, hood hinges, and the passenger fresh air vent.
What I plan to do in the next few weekends is get some body panels from a junkyard, a new muffler, and maybe a cluster with a tachometer. Also, I'm looking for some coil overs to put on it because the current shocks and springs are pretty bad. Will take some recommendations on coil overs.
