Default constructive criticism

I believe there shouldn't be any posts like there has been lately concerning the potential sale between individuals on the board. People post up topics and want to know if they have ever dealt with a particular person or are they legit? I just think the seller should give the buyer a list of x names (i usually give around 5 or so of people i have sold to) and use the PM function.

Just like on a resume. You don't put on a resume call everyone in such & such company. You have specific references.

Yeah, I'd rather read "has anyone dealt with xxxx" posts than "xxxx ripped me off!"

i've purchased a few big ticket items off HT in the past and never had to resort to one of these *who can vouch for...* posts. i believe that if any seller has a *trusted* member online who can vouch for them, its enough....a simple IM can seal it.

however, i can see how useful a post can be, especially when the risk of losing a large amount of money is high...plus a newer member would not be familiar with who on HT is *old-skool*, who's credibility is enough with other senior members who can give credit to that name. plus, the *who's a scammer* threads would take days to go through...

either way, there's a good and bad to each, 'cause i do find it annoying also to see these posts mixed in with every other post on the R forum...i guess if the item for sale is pricey, the seller having some history on HT and private messaging has atleast been attempted, then i wouldn't mind seeing the post once in a while...*should* be R related atleast. otherwise, if too general, the classifieds (or other specific related forums) should do. i feel that mods should delete as necessary or move posts to help clean up the forum at will.

lots of common sense should play into this, but unfortunately, common sense isn't so common among buyers.

picasso: Say I'm selling a LS shortblock. This is not ITR related in any way, however, I only visit this forum and a number of people from this forum know me in real life, etc. So why shouldn't I send them here if they are inclined to make a post to see if I should be trusted?

Regarding IMs, they are useless IMO. I could give you a list of 20 names if I were inclined, and would need but a week to setup all 20 and have all 20 as real users.. not worth it for a B18B shortblock most likely, but..

if this is the case, then your situation does make it "R related" in a sense because the people who can vouch for you are fellow known and trusted R owners who have a good rep on HT...it wouldn't make sense to have a bunch of users with 1 or 2 posts vouching for you...this is the common sense part.

the IM is a fantastic tool in the right hands. i can understand what you mean in your post, but what i'm trying to relay is there must be a trusted member on the other end. this makes it a private affair, unless you do want it to go public, which is the question at hand.

for ex. i wanna buy a set of recaros from a member who i'm not so sure about. i ask the seller for any member on HT with credible history who can vouch for them. i use IM to ask. if portions of the deal don't feel right, then posting on a forum isn't bad if done with discretion and common sense. we just don't wanna see the type r forum turn into the member's forum full of OT

Yes PM'ing is your friend

Even if it's none Type-R related or the seller is not a ITR owner they still post it here.....

- using the internet to make private-sales/purchases is not always the safest thing to do
