Default 2005 RL 12MPG city wtf...

i don't know what can be the issue
i get average 12-13mpg around town and 26-29mpg on the freeway which is a big gap in the MPG
car is stock obviously since there isn't sht i can get for this car from aftermarket besides short ram (which is the only aftermarket upgrade available)
i drove it with stock airbox and short ram gas mileage was same
did the oil change transmission flush 3x3 with redline blend of race/regular from acurazine
tire pressure is all good
motor seems to run good
good air filter
doesn't burn oil or smoke
i ran maxidas scanner multiple times, no codes, new battery
i never ever had to drive this fn slow in my life and still cant get decent gas mileage
i tried different ways already even driving like a prius owner and accelerating veeeeeeeery slowly to a point of people road raging behind me

most i got in the city is 14-15mpg but its a torture to drive like that.

can anyone suggest why a car would have such a broad range or MPG between city and freeway

Well the car is only rated to get 16 in the city anyway, so really the car just doesn't get good mileage. Personally in a quest for every mpg I could get I would experiment with new spark plugs and adjust the gap, go about 5psi over OEM tire pressure and run the thinnest oil weight safe for the vehicle. Aside from that though, they just aren't very good cars lol. The RL in general just does everything mediocre; they're not that comfy for a "luxury" sedan, not very fuel efficient, especially in AWD trim, and they're not fast. It's the Ford Taurus of Acura sedans, it just kinda does what it does.

Holy ****...please do some googling on the difference between city mpg and highway mpg...

Also if you haven't done so please do the maintenance work on your engine/transmission.

The 2005 Acura RL is rated 16 City/24 Highway on the window sticker. As VtecVillian stated above, this particular car just doesn't get particularly good city fuel economy. Given that your engine isn't brand new, it would not be unthinkable to drop 2 or 3 mpg in the city being this old. There will be very little that you can do to improve it... either accept it or sell it. Incidentally, poor in town fuel economy is the number one reason why owners sell that generation RL.

I'm asking in general what are the most common causes of such big difference between city and freeway mileage.

so I can check them maybe something is broken that I'm unaware of.
I'm not asking to tell me how much gas mileage sucks on this car. I already know lol
I did the valve adjustment, oil change, spark plugs, transmission fluid wheel and tire balance and properly inflated, new filter
