'06 CR-V -whining noise and oil press light on
I'm new to posting but have read many Honda/Acura threads over the years and this community has helped me keep my Hondas and Acuras running. I have a big problem now.
My 2006 CR-V AWD SE is making a whining noise that increases when RPM. I thought it was the serpantine belt or tensioner and replaced both- still there. I then removed the belt altogether so that all accessory drives were not driven and I have the same noise. Seems to be coming from Passenger side and likely near Crankshaft pulley. Was going to drive to local garage but now have the Oil Pressure Warning light on.
1) any suggestions what could be making the noise?
2) with the warning light on, is it even safe to drive 5 miles to garage (belt is back on...)?
Other background note- 2 yrs ago the timing chain stretched and valves were bent. Had to have head rebuilt but it's been good up to now. Car has 114,000 miles.

On mine the crank pulley broke in two pieces. The rubber between the two is dead and make that noise.
But your oil pressure is critical. 1/4 miles and the motor is dead. Are you sure the wire do not disconnect when you remove/install the belt?

Mathieu- thanks for your reply and ideas. My crankshaft pulley is still 1-pc but i will double check the grounding strap i had to disconnect/reconnect to remove the Serp Belt. I didn't touch any other wires to my knowledge. Do you know if there is a way to upload a sound clip/recording I made of the noise? That might help others diagnose problem.
Well- heard back from garage- they found metal filings in my oil filter. Cleaned out filter, reattached and Oil Pressure light went out. So blockage was causing low oil flow. They think the oil pump is worn/scored and maybe causing the noise. No idea how wide spread the metal particles are.
Can these be flushed out and out replaced to lessen further damage?
Is it worth tearing down the engine (114k miles and 11 years old) to check/fix oil pump and then whatever other damage may be inside?

If you have metal shavings comming in the oil filter your engine is probably dead. The smaller shavings/particles that pass the oil filter may have score the bearings, crankshaft, camshaft and head. Run it like that if it running good. But plan to need to replace the engine. Anyway if you run it on the oil pressure light you may have damaged it permanently. Check for another engine.
