Long time reader, first time poster. I have an easy issue that I need the advice of a professional for. Recently, I purchased a project Accord, and had to swap the cluster due to the previous one being very broken. Once I swapped everything over, the temp gauge appeared to work fine, until I started moving. I figured it was likely a stuck open thermostat, but then I realized after I tested for a bit, whenever I rev the car past 1,500 rpm the gauge flutters, and then shoots all the way to cold. (C) It will stay there, until I bring the throttle back to idle, where it will reset itself to normal operating temperature.
I thought it was REALLY strange, and went under the hood to check the gauge sender. Here's what I found... brace yourself...
Welp, I looked for the other end of either a red, or lime green wire (since I am not super sure which was cut, and not rewired) and I found nothing... at all!
So either I dont know where the wiring for this sensor goes (like which loom its hiding in) or the rest of the wire is pretty far back. So if I need to rewire this thing, how would I do that? Is there a place I can splice it in neatly, or do I have to find a way to run it all the way to the cluster... I don't know how to do that either. Basically, whats my best plan of attack now that you see the situation I am in...?
Buy a manual. Trace the wire until you find the color code and look in the manual for that wire. Eventually you'll figure out what the wire is for and where it goes.
But having proper documentation is key here.
Head down to the nearest junkyard. Find another car of the same make and model and trim. Trace the wire, cut the wire. Buy some 3m butt connectors that have heat shrink. Splice it in, use a lighter to heat the shrink to close it up clean.
