Hi all,

So I'm planning on replacing my brake master cylinder in my 98 R, last cold season and this cold season, my brake fluid has been getting low, and it seems to be b/c of the BMC, see the pic below. My question to you all is, should I replace the brake booster as well? The booster is booster is about $500 brand new, if it can even be ordered OEM. I don't have any pedal feel issues at all. But my buddy told me if theres brake fluid in the booster I probably should replace it. Also the leaking fluid has started to corrode the area on the booster where the BMC is mated to the booster, which irks me and makes me want to replace it the BMC and the booster. Or maybe I could get away with just replacing the BMC gasket?

What are your thoughts? Bernardi parts is have a sale on OEM parts until sunday, so if I'm going to order this expensive stuff, I will be ordering from them before monday, lol.

It's an R. Replace both and be done already, so it will retain it's value. Go. Go. Go. To hell with XMAS presents. Save the R

 

If it's not your daily driver...dry as much as you can, take the MC off, and check the booster.

 

ok so I received the parts today, and I have a question. In the diagram below I pulled from Bernardi Acura, is the part 23 (rod seal) in the diagram pressed into the booster already? If so, then would I still need part 4 (the brake MC seal)? The new brake MC didn't come with a new seal, and you can't buy them anymore from the few places I looked online that sell OEM parts. So I may have to use an aftermarket seal, yuck!

Check out the pics below, I feel like I just put the new brake MC into the new booster and thats it, but I'm not knowledgeable with this R&R, which I won't be doing myself, btw, lol.

Please provide some guidance! lol!

EDIT: I just had an epiphany I think, lol, is part 4 INTERNAL to the brake MC?!

 

They are the same part. With that said, you only need one and you are set. It was wise not to spend money on a new booster unless you want a spare one or your R is a show caR.

 

Thanks for your input on the seal! I'm sorry but I'll have to disappoint you lol, I did buy a new booster as well! I was worried that the corrosion from the leaking brake fluid may be worse once I had the BMC taken off. I'll have to decide if I'll use the new booster or just hold onto it.
