I think the floating pin might have jammed
Front disc brakes have a bolt that goes to a sliding pin so the caliper can move with pad wear and such, sThey're supposed to be greased, but sometimes they're not, and they seize.

i had this problem on a eg hatch i bought one time
it was just a shell with no engine but had this problem

the problem was a bad booster check valve
when they go bad
your brake pedal gets stiff and your front brake engage and stay engaged

to see if your is good is easy you remove the valve and blow in it with your mouth
try it on both sides and air should only pass from one side only
and it should pass threw easy
if you have to blow hard to get the valve to pass air threw then its bad

heres a pic of where its located

sometimes there inside the hose so you cant see them but to test is the same thing
just undo the hose and then blow into it

You can bypass the brake booster I think to check that too.

well if you bypass the booster than youll still have a stiff pedal
but your brake wont be locking up anymore
so doing that would solve one of your two problems

This usually happens when the master cylinder is not stock and not properly shimmed to the booster.

I dunno why it just happened tho.
