urgent: brake problems
i changed the front brakes on my del sol last friday. today i had to do some driving on some mountainous roads which required some heavy braking. my brakes got pretty hot. i got home and let them cool, now however, my brake pedal used to start to brake the car as soon as you pushed on it, it now is mushy and can go the whole way to the floor. they do not stop my car very well anymore. the rotors didnt warp from the heat, since their was no pulsing. do i just need to do a simple bleed? could air get into the system just from using them hard? did anyone have this problem before? could i have damaged anything? i am planning on taking the car on a long trip tomorrow and would like to get this problem solved so any help is appreciated.
thanks
thanks

Re: urgent: brake problems (flydelsolsi)
i live in colorado, also a lot of mountain driving. i suggest from now on using your gears and not your brakes as much as possible.
for your brake problem, i suggest the simple bleeding, hopefully that will work. good luck man

Well it could be a couple things...
What kind of fluid are you using and has it ever been changed...
Dot 4 or higher has a higher boiling point which could be your problem...
Stainless steel lines do not expand from the heat in the fluid as much as the stock rubber lines do....
It could also be a bad master or simply an improper bleed on install...
If you can think of anymore info to add it may be helpful.

Re: urgent: brake problems (NonovUrbizniz)
the braking system on the car is stock. i have owned the car for less than a year, so i cant comment on its maintanence history, but the car appears to be well maintained. i wasnt slamming on the brakes or anything, but they were hot.

mountain driving is hard on the brakes... I mean it's a frictionally based system... so the more used they are the hotter they're going to get...
I'd suggest switching to dot 4 or better and like the other guy said... use your gears to control the speed as much as possible...
If you still have problems I'd suggest crossdrilled rotors as they will cool down faster... but there are problems inherent to them too... most people here don't think they're anygood or worth the extra money... I like mine.
