Texas BBQ is different than anything in the east. We eat beef here for one. We also use a BBQ sauce and not a dry rub.
If you want your pork, for a chain, Baker's Ribs is good. For memphis style pork check out red, hot, and blue. And Peggy Sue BBQ (near SMU) also has some tasty pork along with beef.
Hope this helps.

There's only a couple of great places you need to go while you're here, and Harvey's BBQ on Grauwyler St. in Irving is only open Monday through Friday, so that leaves you with the best. The original Sonny Bryans BBQ on Inwood Rd, 1 mile north of Stemmons Frwy (35). A few years ago, some guy with some money, bought the rights to open up more Sonny Bryans all around town, but the family kept the original place that's been there since 1910. They also must have left out some of the secrets, cuz none of the money mans places are even in the same ballpark as the original. They're only open Monday through Saturday until 2 pm, or until the food runs out, so don't miss it.
Hope this helps.

if you're in lake dallas and like italian, try bari's off of fm407, about 4 miles down close to the morris rd intersection, if you like chinese try empress of china across the street and down a bit from baris (in a stripcenter with a grocery store)....
as for barbeque, theres colters, but im not too sure about a good barbeque in that area, unless you're willing to venture off into the backwoods.
