Icon5 AEM EMS 1060 and AEM EPM COP problems

Hi All,
I had to install a AEM EPM COP on a customers B20vtec. The car was running fine on the old AEM 1060 EMS so it should have been an easy walk in the park. After installing , changing the jumpers and triple checking all the settings (the AEM COP install manual for the series 1 ecu is terrible) the car just did not want to start.
The setup is:
AEM EMS 1060
AEM EPM COP 30-2860 with the latest coils and ignitor

I did a full system check and found out that the plugs fired in the right order but they fired about 90 degrees to late! Because I could not find 1 setting wrong I changed the cam follower 180 degrees and mounted the puck at the top mounting instead of the side mounting. The car started!

In the meanwhile I found this topic: https://honda-tech.com/forums/drag-r...tions-3045595/
So to be sure the system would perform right I had set the whole ign map to 16 degrees to check the timing. The first problem was that I could not get it to 16 degrees. 8 degrees was the max I could reach but that was not the biggest problem. When I put some revs on the engine I saw the timing go from 8 to 16, and going even back to 0 degrees!! So the timing drifted somewhere between 16 and 0 degrees, depending how much you rev'd it up! Just like in the other topic....

The big question is, why do I have to change the position of the puck to get it running and why is it drifting like hell???

1 thing I noticed is that the wires from the puck are coming out of it on a strange location.

This is a picture from the AEM manual and as you can see the wires come out at the bottom of the puck. In the other picture you can see that the wires come out at a different location.
The serial number is right, the part number is for a B series but it looks like this puck is for a D series??

I have tried to get on the AEM forum but confirmation emails are not being mailed back to me. And the series 1 EMS is not supported anymore.... :-(

Strange location for the wires to come out...

bumping this back up from the dead.

Did you figure out your problem .

Are you ground the aem epm at same place as coils. This always causes problems.

What has worked best is ground the aem epm to sensor ground from ECU . Then grounding coils to engine (dizzy/head)

Mount the EPM on the back bolt. Though this should not make a difference when you sync it. Some timing drift is normal, you need to rev it slow and smooth when checking for drift.
I honestly don't like this kit from aem. I have made 2 cars run great with it. My car however I think spark was to weak for the setup..
But i'v made this kit work with 1010,1040,1050 and 6040 ecus.

I'm going to recommend you keep playing with it and do not condemn your hardware. I can pretty much guarantee it's either a problem
with your tune or a problem with your install and not quality of the parts.
However spark produced from the kit is weaker. I have a CDI box for sale that will pair with it and really make it spark like zues's lightening bolts.
