Where and how is an Engine block guard installed
looking to buy a block guard for my b20b, will a machine shop have to install it or can it be done by a mechanic?

These aren't really recommended to use, and act as a placebo in comparison to replacement cylinder sleeves or even the CSS CNC WERX process.
It's best to stay away fun these damn things entirely. But to directly answer your question, an engine machine shop would be better equipped to perform the installation
