Default GSR gears vs LS gears

Replacing the transmission in my CRX. Its a cable system so I have to get hydraulic switchover. Is it worth it to spend 300 more dollars for GSR gears than to get an LS? Are the gears any stronger or am I just paying for the difference in ratio? I have a company that will rebuild a transmission to the way I like, but really just wondering if you guys think its worth it to spend the extra money.

Default Re: GSR gears vs LS gears

LS gears are very happy on he highway in 5th gear it's like around 2700-3000 rpm @ 70mph depending slightly on the tire diameter.
GSR trans, well let's say your gonna be in a whole different power range through every gear and highway RPM @ 70mph is likely to be 4100-4300.
I found his out the hard way while building up one of my DelSols. The motor had 230kmi on it when I put the GSR trans in and it never smoked. After just two trips (300 miles) at those new highway speeds, the who knows what let go and this thing started using oil like crazy. It still had great power and pulled well but oil levels dropped 1 qt after 300 miles. Had to retire the motor earlier than I had hoped but the new motor and tighter gearing was WELL worth it. It's a whole different car to drive and pulls harder than ever with the lower final drive too.
PS plus posi.
