Frequently reported is a squeeky clutch pedal in the 2002-2006 CR-V. In addition to that complaint I'm adding a poor/substandard clutch relief spring design.
The driver seat was not designed for a 6 foot person (imo), and that fact combined with a heavy clutch pedal was ripping up my knee. Tonight I pulled the clutch pedal out. Thankfully a very easy procedure. A 12mm deep socket, a 6" extention, needle nose pliers, and 5-10 minutes is all you need.
I had plans to change the relief spring design, but found broken plastic bushings, and decided to repair them before getting crazy.
These bushings hold the relief spring. One failed entirely, the other is cracked
I keep a wide variety of miscellaneous parts most would classify as junk. I used my junk to fabricate a bushing
I found a tube that fit nicely into the spring retaining hole. I stepped down the inner diameter with an aluminum 1/8" tube so it would mate with the spring. I added a bevel to the inner diameter for smooth operation New grease was re-appliled during reassembly. My new bushing is frictioned/hammered into place
I noticed less force required to operate the pedal. I reused the cracked bushing on the other side, so I'll be doing this again when if and when it breaks.
