Icon5 Moving to the US - Legal question about engine swaps

Cheers mates,

I'm from Portugal and I'm moving to USA, more specifically Florida in about two months.

I've a doubt, I've seen alot of cheap LS/RS Integras for sale compared to GS-Rs and Type Rs, and my question is: Can I swap a (rare and refurbished) B18C4 engine (UKDM/EDM GS-R engine that came in 96-00 Civic VTi MB6 Hatchback and 97-00 Civic VTi MC2 Aerodeck) and make it road legal/smog legal in the US since it's an abroad engine?

The engine will be running on P73 "R" internals and NPR USDM P73-A00 pistons, plus Type R cylinder head with USDM P73 intake manifold, I'm now searching for an USDM P73 ecu too, so it will be like a "Poorman's Type R" with USDM parts.

Thanks for help.

Cheers,
Pedro

Most states will let you do more or less whatever you want within reason, with California being the most notable exception. Where are you planing on living?

What part of Florida? I live in central florida and there are no vehicle inspections here so you can pretty much do whatever you want.

Cheers,

I'll be around Miami, since I'll work as youth soccer coach for 1 year (international internship).

Does Miami has strict laws about this kind of swaps? It's just a GS-R engine with different stamp (B18C4 instead of B18C1) and stroke than GS/LS/RS.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Best regards

From what I understand, FL has limited laws on what you can't do with your vehicle. If it has tires, brakes and lights you can drive it. At least it seems that way to people from the nanny state of CA.
