Default 2000 Accord Door Locking Issue

I just got a 2000 Accord from my Dad for my daughter. The electric door locks are not working, when I use the locking switch on the driver door and the passenger door i can hear it clicking in the door and under the glove box. He lost the keyless entry remote some while back so he was locking and unlocking the doors manually by pushing down and vise versa to unlock the doors. When I do push the switch up or down the anti-theft light blinks. Can anyone tell me what may be the cause of the locks not working? Thanks in advance

Default Re: 2000 Accord Door Locking Issue

You can always go to a place like AutoZone and see if there are any trouble codes but in my experience the door lock actuators all gave up on my 2000 Accord a couple of years ago and I had to replace them all. The ones in the back doors are fairly easy to replace. I did both of those myself. There are good YouTube videos on how to do it. But, when I tried to do the passenger front door, I gave up after a couple of hours and took it somewhere to have a service shop finish it. The location is much more difficult to reach, the working area is much more limited and there are several pieces that have to line up just right at the same time. I got the parts at Advance Auto but you could also try pulling them from a junkyard car if you are really strapped for cash. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the junkyard since it is likely that they have already failed or would soon fail as well. They just weren't built to last forever and the car is 16+ years old at this point. For sure you don't have to pay a dealer premium dollars for an authentic Honda part, or pay the stealership rate on service. Just take it to a competent independent mechanic and ask them to use a quality aftermarket part, if you don't want to try to do it yourself.
