Icon4 crankshaft woodruff key

This looks bad to me. This photo isn't super clear, but you can see what's left of the woodruff key holding the harmonic balancer. The brownish stuff, after trying to clean it, is some sort of epoxy.

Any ideas?

I wish I knew, but they might have done it after finding it that way. What's the alternative? New crank? New engine? JDM?

I purchased the car at 145k miles. It's only got 170k now. I may have to do it the way they did, or what? This engine runs very well, do I throw it away?

I have no idea if I can even get the pulley off. The water pump leaks.

You might be able to get the pulley off with a 3 jaw gear puller.

Yes, I just ordered one.

I'm not certain it's long enough to reach the back of the pulley, but if I tear up one of the outer pulleys I don't care. Then I have to put it back on the same way? With some epoxy. I won't know until I get it off.

Looks like the groove for the woodruff key on the crank is dammaged, this will cause the crank pulley to possibly slip. Might need a new crank or replace the bottom block at least.

I second that, it looks like the epoxy is also filling in for a portion of whats missing from the crank.

I'm going to try and pull it off first and then if I can, I'll decide what to do.

There's no way I can rebuild an engine where I am, and I'm getting ready to move in a few months......

I've seen some engine builders online, selling b18a1 long blocks. Anybody know any that are know to be good? Recommended?

I got a couple reversible jaw pullers and will try asap. I'm going to need to lower the engine. Obviously removing the driver's engine mount....and the front mount? Just loosen it, right? Don't remove?

Thanks!
