Icon5 RTV or not to RTV?

I've seen instruction and videos installing the water pump on the block, some use RTV on the gasket and pump, some use just enough to hold the gasket......and say not to use any more than necessary to hold the gasket.

I'd like to know what the people here are doing, and experience in the long term.

Thanks!

I always recomend using a small thin spread around the edges with Hondabond.

I second a thin layer, but tbh I never started doing that until 5 yrs ago. Before I would rely on the rubber gasket the water pump came with. I had no issues though but when I buy a whole tube of hondabond it would sit there being wasted away.

I'm using a more typical RTV made for water pumps, but now I've found a serious problem.
