Assistance Needed: Diagnosis of Issue; Is it transmission or brakes?
Hi Guys,
I have an EG civic with a b18 engine in it. I'm having the following problem.
When i start the car its fine - but after about 5 min of driving (high rpm) the brakes go really hard and the following occurs...when i change gears from 1st to 2nd the car noticeably slows down as if the brakes are applied during this gear shift. Normally the car is moving as you change from 1st to 2nd but it sort of bunny hops and needs heaps of gas to stop it from stalling. Also the warmer the engine gets the more gas i need to apply to get it to move out of 1st gear - so initially its fine but after a while when this problem starts i need to rev the car past 3000rpm just to get to to move from 1st ..eventually it just doesn't move out of 1st no matter how much gas you give it..feels like the brakes are locking up and even in neutral the car cannot be moved / pushed..does that even make sense?
Wouldn't mind some thoughts on whether its a clutch issue / brake issue or gearbox issue..?
Thanks
K

I'd check to see if your calipers or drums are rusted to ****. It could also be your wheel bearings although you would either hear a roaring noise or vibrations would occur on the steering wheel.
As mentioned get it off the ground and in neutral and see if wheels spin freely, do this with engine warmed up. 94
Hi,
Wheels spine free when car is cold - but once you drive it a bit the wheels dont spin freely anymore.
Not sure why the issue would only be happening when the car has been driven

Do the back wheels not spin freely with the E brake off? If so, it sounds like a bad master cyllinder.
Have you done any changes to brake components. A brake booster that's not adjusted correctly will do this also.
