Neutral Safety Switch causing this problem?
I think it will be easier to break the symptoms down. Long story short Ithought my transmission was going but the check engine light is giving code P0700, P0740 (weird because Ihave an automatic and no clutch), & P1751. The most common culprit for P0700 seems to be the neutral safety switch which is why I'm asking and it can make it seem like a bad tranny. Here are the symptoms
2002 Honda Accord SE Previously:
- hard shift into drive- hard shift if Iddon'tcome to a ccompletestop before going in
- hard shifts from gears 1-3 unless I'm easy on the pedal then its slightly better
- takes a moment to go down/up a gear at times
Last night it went to a whole new level and now
- had it in cruise control doing 60mph and out of nowhere it violently started jerking like it was trying to downshift
- When I have it in D4 or D3 it does not want to start going and revs the engine before it jerks and starts to go. It will jerk like its trying to downshift when iIget around 40
- coming to a complete stop it will sometimes not downshift but will stay in the higher gear until i try to go and then jerk before going
- If I put it in D2 it drives perfectly with 0 issue stopping or going but I can't go above 30 without it getting high RPMs.

So I'm wondering if this may help narrow things down. When it first started shifting rough Ihad replaced the tranny fluid and it seemed to help for about 50 miles before reverting back to hard shifting.
Also is there a way to test the control solenoid? Is that the part I would need is actually called?
If the transmission itself went wouldn't that prevent me from driving in D2?
I'm not exactly a mechanic but I am mechanically sound if I'm pointed in the right direction if that makes sense.

P0700 Non specific, will show up if there is a problem with the transmission, Honda does not even list this code. Generic code readers show this code.
P0740 Lock-up Control System. This relates to the torque converter clutch(TCC).
P1751 Mechanical problem in the hydraulic system. This requires a known good Linear Control solenoid( 'H' shaped solenoid pair. uber expensive) and Shift control solenoid 'B' to test with.
If there was a problem with the transmission range switch(NSS) there would be either a code 1705 or 1706.
You can do some of your own testing on your existing solenoids by using this link Part 1 -How to Test: A/T Pressure Control Solenoids A and B (Honda 2.2L, 2.3L)

Thank you so much for the help mike. I take it the H shaped one is the main culprit? Can you recommend which part to go with?

At those prices you would be better off just purchasing the parts from Honda directly. Make sure you get the retail price and not 'matrix' pricing.
It would most likely be cheaper and faster to take the car to a Honda Automatic Transmission specialist. Some of these transmissions were known to have internal problems, and even if rebuilt without being updated would continue to have problems.
