Default mrhugo's 2001 Integra GS-R DB8 Sedan Titanium Metallic Build

I am very excited to own another Integra after sold my 01 GS-R coupe about 9 years ago. Found a one owner 2001 Titanium Metallic Sedan with a stack of receipts. It was owned by a gentlemen in Pasadena, CA, poor guy got raped by GLxxxxLE Stealership. They charged them 550 to replace O2 Sensor and 144 for oil change just to name a few......but I a glad he was persistent in maintaining the car. I am still debating what to do with the car. As you can see it is not in perfect condition but it is no where near a trashed up car.

PLAN A -
- Restore OEM tan interior (or JDM SIR-G interior but it is a PITA...)
- Refresh intake Manifold, clean all sensors (port and polish?)
- Fix PCV valve (its make this whine noise)
- Replace most suspension bushing
- JDM Type R shock and spring for DB8
- JDM Type R OEM full exhaust system
- Type R 22mm sway bar with ASR subframe brace
- OEM Type R Front Spoiler
- Repaint front Bumper
- Refresh GSR blades Wheels
- 3M Clear Air 70 Tint ($850!!! is it worth it?)
- 15" Silver TE37 (maybe)

Plan B - JDM Type R like this silver one. (what size are these TE37?)

Last weekend, I realized the Vtec is not engaging as hard as I remember when I had my GS-R 9 years ago. So I replace both vtec solenoid gasket, sandwich o-ring and dowel pin (replaced valve cover gaskets). Now I can hear the Vtec at 4,400 RPM and my secondary intake opens at 5,700 RPM.

Looks like I have a cam seal leak...... Can someone please confirm. I am stupid for not changing it while i had the Valve cover off. Btw, do i need to take all the cam holders off?

looks to be. just remove the vtec solenoid again and that looks to be an oem plug. you should be able to pop it out with a flat head and replacement oem should snap in

That thing is stupid clean, minus the driver seat.. almost looks like a dog did it..
Black interior would be nice in there, but the cheapest route would be to just find a mint beige driver seat and call it a day.

I believe the te37 on that jdm db8 type R are 16's. Not sure what offset or if they are 16x7 or 16x8.

i do love a good DB8 build, in for this one.

how does one get that kind of damage to a seat? i could understand if it was worn out where you get in and out, but that is just weird lol

Please, don't do the ITR front end. Just keep the car complete as it is... work with what you have. I know from experience :p

Car is super clean the way it is, JDM fronts are nice and all but they're also expensive. GL with the build!

Been busy with studying, but want to do a little quick progress update:

The paint surface is clean in these pictures because I claybar'd, and did a little cutting and polishing. Then, finished with a sealant (all Menzerna product).

Here is a before photo:

Continue from my last post in trying to fix my oil leak I found near the B18C letters, I changed the cam seal caps to see it it was the culprit.

VIOLA!! Nice and sealed, Now after a quick drive, the Oil leak is still there!!! After a quick search, most people think it is the distrubutor o-ring. I don't believe it because I don't see any oil trail from the distributor to the B18C area.... but I will give it a try. So next morning, I went to the dealership and bought and O-Ring for $2.34!!!! SMH Oh well, I need the oil leak gone. While I was there, I brought in some 5W-30 Mobil One Extend Mileage for the dealer to change car's oil and filter.

So after I install the o-ring, no more leaks..... Amazing. How did the oil travel all the way down without a trail. If any of you have leaks like that, please check these places first.

So, I had a hard time deciding which route to go... USDM GSR or completely JDM ITR. Like some of you have said, it is a waste to destroy this one owner clean example of GSR DB8. So, my new goal is to restore this car to look like it just came out of the show room from Acura, but at the same time drives like a GSR+ (like type r). After the decision, I can safely binge out on buying parts. so I was on a shopping spree recently and bought a lot of goodies....

JDM 4-1 OEM Headers

JDM 98 Spec ITR Taillights

imageupload

JDM OEM DB8 ITR Exhaust

imageupload

GSR Full Leather Tan/Taupe Interior
I got really Lucky, I almost paid $1000 to have the front seat redone. These seats were store for a long time and the leather are still SOFT!!!!

imageupload

WheelSkin Leather Steering Wrap (I believe Honda use this brand but the these leather wrap feel much better in quality than the OEM one)

imageupload

imageupload

JDM 4-1 Header Top Heat Shield
OEM ITR Front Lip (perfect condition w/ all tabs & brackets)

imageupload

HONDA PARTS!!! (shipment 1 of 2)
Lots of gaskets, seals, bushings

img host

CT IceBox and Uni Filter

Your build is way more involved and difficult than my build. I don't have as much patience as you. All my build is really just buy parts and replace. I just like to get it done thus I look hard for a clean example. I was on craigslist and offer up 24/7 and just happened to see a set of seats that are for sedan! Tan! and not dried out leather! I got super lucky as the seller said 3 people wanted to look at the seat that day but I was the first person to contact him. I went to pick it up the same day.

I don't know why the seats got so damaged, the previous owner must sweat a lot, however, acura leather is horrible.

Yes, I know exactly what you meant. I went through that one time and it cost me a lot of money. However, I still like a nice JDM front end car someday. If you have another chance to do JDM front end, why would you not go through it again?

Agree, it feels nice to look at a time capsule from 2001, an original GSR interior.
