Default 99 civic CX - CKF CEL code P1337

Hey guys,

I have a check engine light for P1337 which I believe is the CKF which I also believe is that sensor that is right next to the crank shaft on the lower timing belt.

I have read there is a way to trick the ECU into bypassing that sensor to get rid of the Check Engine Light. However, most of these posts are based around bypassing the ECU because they did an engine swap. What I am wondering is, can I bypass the sensor with the stock engine and stock ECU?

Its a 1999 civic CX manual hatchback with a D16Y7.

Also I have read there are a few ways to do this, can someone direct me to the correct way for my civic?

Thanks,
Fraser

Did you recently purchase the car or recently replace timing belt?

I have owned the car for three years, I replaced the timing belt two years ago. The Check Engine Light came on about one year ago.
The alternator belt was starting to slip and when I tightened up the belt the engine code showed up.

A common problem is that the CKF wire harness is improperly routed after replacing the timing belt. This causes the wire harness to rub against the spinning timing belt, causing wire damage.

In your case, check whether the alternator belt damaged the CKF wires. They are located close to each other.

Post pictures.

As far as picture go, I am not really feeling fulling the timing cover. I am more interested if I can trick the ECU into bypassing the sensor without pulling the cover.

What makes you believe this^ is necessary?

I thought you had to pull the lower timing cover and remove the pulley the runs the alternator to access the sensor.

Why do you think you need to access the sensor?

Alright, I am guessing you can offer a suggestion that will make this easier for me. Would you please point me in the right direction?

Did you purposely or accidently unplug/damage the CKF connector during the alternator work? Pics might clear that up.

Here are pics, I am now assuming in the second picture I pulled the wires out of the connector when I was tightening up the alternator.

If you broke the connector or pins, then the CKF may not be able to send its signal to the ECU, causing the code.

check the wiring to be sure its intact,if it is just change the crank sensor about the easiest thing you can do.The only issue might be the crank pulley bolt but you will eventually do a timing belt so now would be the time to exercise the bolt. Do not forget to torque it to spec after you are done.
