Engine Block Stamps and ID ?'s
I noticed on 88-95 Honda motors/trannies there are numbers and stamps on them, i was wondering if it is possible to track down what car a block or tranny came from. On the 96-and newer honda motors and trannies, there are actual VIN plaques on the motors making it possible to track down where a motor or tranny came from.
My question is, Is it possible to track where a motor/tranny came from just by using a block stamp or tranny stamp???
Reason being that I am about to purchase a 95 GSR Complete Motor from a seller in Southern Oregon, for $1150 complete with everything you need for a swap. The price alone already is too good to be true, the motor is flawless and the seller says it has about 60k miles on it.
I am taking the Block Stamp and Tranny Stamp to the State Patrol or DMV to verify if the motor is legit or not. Please reply with any of your experiences of this nature

You could always use carfax to check out the VIn instead of the police
