New intake
Hey guys I'm looking to put a new intake in. Something with a new washable filter and I don't know if I should buy a new filter or go for a cold air intake, a warm air intake or a short ram air intake in. Dose any one know if the boxes attached to the stock intake help with anything in particular.

k&n is a drop in filter, the kit has oil you spray onto it, after some time you spray it with the cleaner and it gets rid of all the dirt and the old oil, and you just respray it and let it sit for a few hours to dry and put it back on
Aside from having a washable filter, what are you looking to get out of changing your intake? Performance, economy, esthetics or sound?
The stock air box supplies enough air to the engine without restriction on these engines. The throttle body, and the F22B1 1/2 VTEC are the choke points. The stock intake is designed to supply ample amounts of air and reduce the engine noise in the cabin. You remove the air box and resonator and you will hear the engine more. If you shorten the distance between the throttle body and the tube opening (RAM Air/Short Ram) you may see a slight increase in throttle response.

Where as I am a fan! I love the sound and I love the throttle response you get from them. They are really only a "hot air intake" when you are sitting still and it's 70°+ outside! Major reason I see a loss in MPG is because I can't keep my foot off the throttle pedal.

If you are looking to replace the intake tube before the throttle body there is only one port. That is for the PCV fresh air inlet that feeds the crankcase/valve cover. There are no vacuum ports or other openings required. In the case of the valve cover inlet you can replace that hose with a simple crankcase filter.
I can post up a diagram and picture later today. I realize it can get a bit confusing.
