Can I replace the D block with a B?
I'm totally unfamiliar with civics (how all shitty noob post begin) my sister has a 96 civic DX. I believe the 1.6 liter D16Y7 engine. Well.. a connecting rod bearing seized. Being a nice brother, I told her I would help her get it back on the road. While researching used short blocks, my buddy mentioned he has an old (1994 I believe) del sol sitting on his side yard that was running good until it was rear ended. He welcomed me to all parts free of charge. Did a little more research and learned it has the B16A3 engine (also a 1.6 liter like the civic). Now I'm only interested in the short block. Is anyone familiar with both motors? Are these 2 short blocks potentially interchangeable? I would truly appreciate any information. Thanks all
No, but you can put the entire motor with tranny in from the del sol. But you would need mounts, axles, and a obd2a-obd1 ecu jumper to use the one from the del sol. I would strip said del sol, sell the swap, buy replacement motor and give the rest of the money to your buddy after you get the civic running.

You can't swap the shortblock, or even just the engine itself. but the complete swap (engine, transmission, axles, etc will drop right in with some minor wiring modifications. You will also need a shift linkage from a '94 - '01 Integra or '99 - '00 Civic Si and rear transmission bracket from a '99 - '00 Civic Si. In addition to that you'll either need a conversion harness for the ECU or a '96 - '97 Del Sol Vtec ECU. The engine does make 160hp vs the 106hp D16Y7 currently in the car.
