Hi guys I'm buying a car and am hoping to fix it. I have an idea of what's wrong with it but I just wanted to get some other opinions too.

It's a 95 integra LS.

With the car running, you can put the car in any gear without pushing in the clutch... except for reverse, which grinds a little bit.
When the car is in any gear, you can hit the gas and the speedometer will move like the car is in gear.
Speedometer doesn't move when in neutral.

I have a spare transmission if the trans is toast, but I'm not sure if that's the case... Was thinking the clutch is toast, but I know that reverse shouldn't grind if the trans and engine aren't connecting. The VSS shouldn't move if the trans and engine aren't connected. RPM moves relative to speedo.

Just wanted to see if anyone has a solid diagnosis based on this. I haven't torn into it quite yet, but that will happen soon here.

Could just be a broken axle.

 

Ditto the above broken axel or maybe one of the axels is not "seated" properly, to test jack front end off the ground, [both the wheels] then turn/spin one of the wheels the other wheel should turn/spine in the opposite direction, [same direction if you have, [posi track ] if not it is a broken or unseated axel. 94

 

for the record, it was a broken axle

put it in 4th gear, had my friend hit the gas while i looked at the axles, and the passenger axle was spinning...but the wheel was not. CV axle separated from the outer joint.

$100 for an axle, and I am able to drive my rust free $1600 del sol.

Pretty stoked on that.
