Default Valve Cover Question!

Ok. As most of you know, I finally got the lude back together, with the help of HONDA, and some notes from Todd. Well.. I noticed today when i opened my hood that there was a mild oilspray on the underside of my hood and on the back side of my valve cover. I look around the valve cover and see that the nut that is in the back center of the cover that holds the cover on, has no washer underneath it. I still have enough oil, although i was getting low. What all problems can this cause? I have driven it 100 miles since its been back together, so I am just wandering if anything can be damaged with it not being sealed right there (other than lack of oil)

Thanks
Mike

As long as you didn't run out of oil, you should be ok. Just replace the washer and clean up the mess.

are you sure your oil filter is properly tightened? b/c that will give you oil spray under the hood.
j/k.

i'm suprised you lost oil though just because that (plastic ?) washer wasn't there. i thought i had gone without a couple of those before and not run into trouble.
well you can see that there is an opening that a washer would cover if it were there.
The nut does not even reach the valve cover so there is a good size space between the bottom of the nut and the top of the cover.

I lost one of those washer things too once. You will lose oil out there all the time coz of compression in the crankcase. It an't no ordinary washer either, its half rubber seal(shaped to fill hole) and half metal. Honda only part I'm affraid. Next day delivery about $5 each. I temporarily used a rubber washer and metal washer on top and it still was wet with oil around the washer after only 10miles.

Get the parts...

When I replaced my valve cover gasket, I went to NAPA and got the whole kit with those washers for under the bolts, the pieces around the plugs and the gasket for around $30
Maybe you can buy just the washer things there too??
