Default Intercooler pipe knocking - recommendations of protection from erosion from rubbing

There's a slight knocking noise on/off throttle and when I start the car that I'm fairly certain is the intercooler piping. On my previous setup, I put adhesive foam in the areas that were touching, but it wore through in no time. Is there something more durable that I can use? My Hasport motor mounts only have a bit over 2,000 miles on them, so that's not the problem.

As a quick fix, I split some vinyl tubing and made a grommet, cuz mine was where it passes through the fender well..(EG/EH)
Then during my top end refresh this spring, I discovered a gnarly *** half inch almond shaped hole rubbed thru my aluminum charge pipe. The vinyl was harder than piping.
Had been repping like that for months, (no wonder a three valve hung with me with my passenger.)
I fixed all the questionable unions, bought a 90 couple for turbo outlet, and adjusted so there were no points of contact.
Now I can use all 8 lbs. of boost!
God, I suck, with my obsolete S200.

I wrapped the couple of spots that come close to the chasis with header wrap. It also helps with heat rejection.

LOL, why vinyl? I split a piece of fuel hose and it's held up for nearly 15 years. I originally had a Greddy kit that came with an aluminum bracket which bolted to the chassis. It eventually snapped in half. I wish there was a way to support it without being too rigid to the point where it can break.

I was thinking about header wrap, but it seems like a pain to work with because there's no adhesive.

Split a piece of rad hose and secure it with zip ties.

Thanks guys, I've decided to try header wrap.

I looked at my hose scraps and only had clear vinyl from something, didn't have fuel hose laying around....
anyway, I figured it would cushion.

The best way is not to have any contact points like it is now, clean! **** can move all it wants now.

Or Home Depot sells the stainless ties as Cable ties for $6
My wrap gave up long before these did. Well, they never did, had to cut off.

Perfect, thank you! Is 11 inch the right size for 2.5" piping with DEI Titanium Wrap?

edit...

I just found these for cheap:

https://www.amazon.com/Vktech-100pcs-Stainless-Exhaust-Locking/dp/B00CTKBTH2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1473869578&sr=8-3&keywords=header+wrap+ties

I pay more attention to the negative reviews, which mention that they back off a bit after you tighten them. I wonder if this is common with all these types of cable ties, rather than the brand.

LOL, who edited the subject in my thread to "erosion"?

Yes those tie wraps are pretty much useless in my opinion unless you have the special tool for tightening them. I've tried every which way from Sunday and they always loosen on me. I prefer regular hose clamps even if they appear less appealing to the eye.

Header wrap will rub off in no time. Check this stuff out. I've used it in some projects at work. Has great form-ability, has a slick surface and very abrasion resistant:

McMasterCarr #: 8997K21 , the softest durometer I believe

I've had the same experiences with those ties, hose clamps work great for me too.

Thank you for the link, but I already ordered some DEI header wrap. Hopefully, it holds up. That stuff on McMaster is expensive! $60+ for one square foot? I guess if there's a stubborn area, I can try a smaller piece.

The 6x6 is $18. I know that header wrap is $50 + for roll and its not really made for that purpose.

I got a 33' roll for $25 on Amazon. I had ordered it before you posted, so I'll go ahead and use it for now. If and when it grinds through (or "erodes" from years of water rushing through there, lol), I'll order the 6x6 piece.

Since this is going to be hidden inside the fender and bumper, why can't I just use thick plastic zip ties, rather than hose clamps, etc.?

I used vacuum hose, split it down the middle, placed it over the sharp metal and worked fine.

Use hairspray to keep it in place or some sort of adhesive if it keeps moving.

This is also good for aftermarket radiators that hit the brace in the corner.

Plastic zip ties will probably work just fine for intercooler piping, but I still think worm clamps will hold the best. Especially inside the fender/bumper where it's never going to be seen anyways.

I did the same thing on my last radiator, and now my PWR is doing the same thing. Thanks for reminding me!

That's a good point. I just thought the worm clamps might be bulky and possibly be another source for metal on metal contact. I'll try the worm clamps first.
