2008 Service ?
Hi,
I recently picked up a 2008 Accord V6 EXL with only 41,000 on it (So PUMPED!) a huge step up from my '96 Accord with 216,000. I'm wondering if where it's 8 years old I should look into doing the timing belt/water pump and or any other services (ATF, brake fluid, anti-freeze). Based on what I've heard/read the maintenance minder should inform me when services should be done, but I'd like to err on the side of caution. I would assume that over time the compounds used in the belts will harden and break down.. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

J35s with VCM tend to foul plugs. You can look it up on the web. However, because you don't know the service history, I would also replace all the plugs. 2-3 of the plugs will go out at about 65K for normal use. Since yours it's lightly used, either it happened already or will happen.
I had two J35s with this condition. One Honda did it for free. The other Honda reimbursed me. Honda changed the plugs and made the VCM kick in less with software update. I'm not sure if the class action expired or not.
But if just change the plugs, you should be good to go (for the next 60K+).

Thanks...I didn't know that was an issue. I'll swap the plugs out and see what they look like. Do you know if it impacted all automatic V6s. I know the previous owner had some services done at a dealership, but I'm not sure if that particular update was done. I know there are a couple newer recalls to be done. Based on what I've read even though there was a class action it doesn't seem it was a recall issue. I wonder if I contact a dealer if they would be able to tell me if the update has been done?

Then the class action was settled. Honda reimburse me.
It happened on my 10 Accord. Honda covered it all, no $$$ out of pocket. It's not a recall because it's really not a "safety thing." If the dealers is going to update it for free, they probably not going to give you the plugs. So if you are going to pay for it, you might as well change them yourself. For what they are going to charge you, you can buy plugs for the entire life of the car, and still cost less, no?
