2002 Accord EX ignition locking
Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with my ignition locking. It takes several attempts to get the key to turn but it does eventually after jiggling the steering wheel. This car is 15 years old and it's never done this.
I suspect it's the key itself even though the Honda dealer says that if it unlocks the trunk and doors the key is fine and it's the lock cylinder. (This is the spare key...my teenage driver lost the original.)
I was at WalMart today and on a whim had them make me a duplicate. And wouldn't you know, that cheapo key I paid $1.70 for unlocked the ignition with no trouble whatsoever. I knew it wouldn't kick the engine over because it's not chipped but for an experiment it was fine. I did it 20 times and it worked every time. I put the Honda key back in and nothing.
So is it the key or isn't it? If it is, why would the Honda dealer lie to me? Did they just want me to spend money I didn't need to spend instead of $35 for a new key?
I'm not a happy Honda customer right now.
