oil in combustion chamber cause misfire code p1399 (solved)
ok. 98 civic ex (d16y8 vtec) 345xxx miles. ill give ya the whole rundown. bought the car and couldnt figure out why it would not start. so i tore into the timing cover to check the timing put everything back together and magically it started up although i didnt mess with the timing at all. all was well and wanted to clear the misfire code so i tried to change the distributor along with plugs and wires and a new cap. well I didnt use the distributor cuz it was the wrong one and the existing one on the car was almost brand new. I go to put everything back together and now it wont start. I didnt make reference marks on the distributor when i took it off which was dumb of me. The distributor is installed correctly and somewhat close to where it was sitting before i took it off. well after it cranking and cranking I pulled the plugs and realized there was oil on all my plugs (ring issue not valve cover o rings) and noooow i cant seem to get the cylinders cleaned out enough to grab a spark and combust. im wondering if my timing is seriously that far off it wont even try to idle (it does try to grab a spark but stutters and doesnt start) or if the oil in the cylinders is my problem? again it was pouring oil into the cylinders before i removed the distributor and was running and now it doesnt. is there an easier way to clean the cylinders than to remove the head and clean it out that way (which if i remove the head imma do the rings) thanks please let me know if you need more information. this is my first honda look forward to becoming an active member of the site.

well thanks to ghost accord I got her running again! he doesnt know he helped me but in another post he gave the info i was looking for. I had my dizzy 180 degrees off i flipped the key way on the dizzy 180 degrees and she started right up. the ecu sets the timing. and having oil n the combustion chamber totally is causing the misfire code. I need rings but for a car i paid 300$ for im not going to turn another bolt on it after I change the engine oil this eve.
