Default 1987 Honda Accord Hatchback Timing Belt Question

hey there

I'm thinking of purchasing a 1987 manual Accord that's in pretty good cosmetic shape inside and out for $1100. Clean title. Only down side is the 228k miles and I don't know when the timing belt was last changed. Seeing at this can be a $500 or so job, do you think the car is worth it? Drives smooth and seems well maintained for it's age, but I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the money I would spend to change it and the water pump preemptively.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Thanks
Emma

It's a clean car, but..... IDK, I think you can buy a car 20 years newer for the same price.

If you do decide to go for it, check it thoroughly.

Common areas of concern:

Rear upper control arms.
Power steering pump
Rack & pinion
All suspension bushings
Clutch cable
Valve cover leaks
Fast idle & idle mixture (if carb'd)
CV axles

If anything looks even remotely bad, make sure there's replacement parts available.
