No Start Issue, Compression coming out of intake, Cam Timing?
Good afternoon folks,
I'm stumped on what's causing the issue with my B20V Setup, It's a fresh build with all new parts, I'll include some specifics below. The car, at this point, has not been successfully started with the new engine.
Cranking over the engine, I get some pops, as if it's trying to start, sometimes. I've compression tested each cylinder, all read 150 on new rings and sleeves.
I'm running S2 Pro 2's and I think I'm running into a cam timing issue, but I'm not sure. I'm attaching a picture of the cams set at what I believe is TDC (The Crank is on TDC) I assume the cams are clocked correctly or I wouldn't be building compression.
I'm not sure if I have an intake valve staying open too long, or an exhaust valve not opening early enough, but basically unburnt air/fuel clouds come poofing out of the throttle body when cranking the engine over.
We're just attempting to test fire this engine before we finish everything to make sure it's going to work, so the only electrical stuff we have connected is MAP, TPS, Started Ground and Power, Injectors, Dizzy, Engine Ground (G101). Logically, in my head, I would think this would be enough for it to fire up. We get spark on all 4 wires, firing order is set right, fuel is present, injectors click open as dizzy is turned by hand.
Can someone provide me some help on my cam gear settings, the literature available out there for BDL Cam Gears is almost non-existent, and their marking/labeling on the gears themselves is terrible in my opinion.
Thanks for any help folks, I'm really stumped here.

If your getting "backfiring" "unburnt air/fuel clouds come poofing out of the throttle body when cranking the engine over". that would indicate at least one intake valve is not closing all the way on the exhaust stroke, because you do build compression, my guess is the problem is the intake cam gear, [or maybe both gears] is out of position, but again it is just a guess. 94
IF your at tdc in this picture on the crank pulley ... I believe your cams are out of sync.... you need to rotate left cam 180 degrees to the left,,, then rotate right cam 180 to the right.
another way to know is by finding out where the key way is on the camshaft .... they are always to be up when setting timing
