HELP! Supercharger whine in 4th gear only!
Hey Everyone,
I have a 5th gen prelude, and i keep getting this whining/supercharger noise ONLY in 4th gear! Once 4th gear is engaged, and only under acceleration, I hear this whine. It gets louder as the RPM's go up.
It only happens in 4th gear, when i press the clutch in, it stops...all the other gears sound great and the car pulls like a champ...even in 4th gear.
I changed my engine oil and flushed the tranny (used Honda transmission fluid)
Any ideas on the problem? I really hope I don't need to replace the tranny...i'd be devastated haha.

I am by no means a transmission guru, but if the following is the case..
Noise in 4th gear only under accel.
No noise when coasting in any gear.
no noise when clutch in aka no load.
You have an internal tranny issue with either a bearing or something related to shaft alignment. Either a rebuild or replace the trans is in order I would say.

Thanks for responding to my message. I was hoping not to go that route...but i might need to. Luckily I can just buy a new tranny and install it myself in my garage. I'm just trying to exhaust all my options first.
Nonetheless...FML..
Yeah if it is a basic trans, should be pretty cheap and a few hours of work. Might as well do a clutch while you have it apart, unless you know the condition of the current one.
