D16Y8 swap into 00 Civic - need help with vtec wiring
i have a 00 civic 4 door with a D16Y7 non V-Tec motor and its shot. but i have a 96 civic 2 door with D16Y8 V-Tec motor. everything seems like it should bolt right up for a swap. the question is can i wire up the V-Tec to the non V-Tec computer or do i have to swap the wire harness and computer. im just trying to do the easiest way possible..
Add VTEC wires to your '00 Civic engine harness, purchase an OBD-2B -> OBD-2A ECU adapter harness, and plug your '96 Y8 ECU into the adapter harness. You may need to alter some wires in the Y7 engine harness in order to make it fit the Y8 engine... lengthen, shorten and change plugs as necessary.
You can add the individual wires for vtec to the harness you have now and perform the IACV fix or buy a '99 - '00 Civic EX engine harness for your transmission type and wire in the secondary O2 sensor. You'll also need an ECU from a '99 - '00 EX to match your transmission type, and on that note if you have an automatic you'll also need to swap the trans for a '96 - '00 EX trans.

You can't simply use the engine harness from the donor car as you can see here:
