Two questions for you guys:
1) Will the dashcluster from the automatic transmissions with the tach plug in and provide a working tach in a 5 speed car? (1997 DX with a D16Y7)
2) Why do the autos have a tach and not the manuals?

1) You don't need to swap dashboards if you only looking for a gauge swap (tach vs no tach).

2) Options/trim levels.

 

Perdon. I meant dash cluster. Does the cluster with the tach work in manual cars that didn't have a tach on the cluster?

 

Oooh...thats a tough question..

 

So I went to the yard and pulled a cluster. Tach works, speedo works, fuel gauge works. Temp gauge seems to be sitting a bit low, but my thermostat might be stuck open since the fans rarely ever kick on and the temp gauge never worked on the old dash.

 

Yes the cluster will work, you can also swap the speedometer over from the old cluster to retain your mileage.
