where is my VSS (speed sensor)?
im putting in the gsr cluster and there are 2 wires that go to the VSS. i know that there is a metal cable that goes into my tranny. i thought that it used to measure speed but im not sure now.
If your talking about the stock tranny...... It's just next to the motor mount located on top of the tranny between the firewall and the engine on the drivers side. It just has the one big black cable sticking out of it.
well alright it looks that you are saying that you are putting a GSR cluster into a 88 crx you do have an electronic VSS which you will need to do this because the cluster you got is not mechanical like you old one. The VSS is located on the rear top of the tranny you should see it...

If you do go ahead and replace the VSS, make sure not to make plans too soon after you start working on it, because taking that thing out of the tranny is no easy task on a 14 year old car, trust me I just did mine. On the upside the wiring is easy!!!

He needs an electronic Vss... you cannont use a mechanical one for this conversion... I should know I wrote the article on it... so get your self a electronic vss outta a 92+ civic or 94+ integra.. and u will be set... pm me if u have anymore questions.
The VSS on your CRX is in your cluster. The speedo gauge is the VSS. So, if you put the GSR one it, you won't have a VSS, which is why you need the electric one off a 92+ civic or 94+ integra (B series or D series tranny).
ok thanks. are all honda speed sensors the same? and does signal go to the cluster, power go to a constant 12V source, and i know about the ground.

yes power to a 12V source controlled by the ignition, the speed sensor on the ECU is located on pin B16, you can just tap right at the ECU, probably the easiest in terms of running the wires, you can even get your ground and power there if you'd like. Be careful, the ECU plugs sometimes have numbers on them, but they are not the numbers reffered to when identifying the pin location.
If you need to know more just IM me, I'll give you the exact pin locations.
good luck

dont run them from the ecu... jsut run them from the stock cluster plugs....... no need to tap into teh ecu wireing... just use the wiring from the stock plugs for the speedi signal and the vss
