OT: Might get fucked over by Insurance Company

Well I've just received a letter from Progressive today stating that a claim has been filed against me in an accident that I've never been in. Also, the date of the accident was Nov. 5, 2000. Why would it take over two freakin years to process a claim??? It pisses me off that I might get in trouble for something I had nothing to do with, and it makes me even more angry that someone might be trying to pull some sort of insurance fraud against me. HMMMM I wonder what the police report (if there is one) says....
That doesn't seem right at all. My mother was in an auto accident last February, and in the state of Illinois you have up to one year to file claims against another person or insurance. I'd see if you can track down a friend who knows a lawyer you can get some quick legal advice from over the phone or something, but that REALLY does not seem right to me.

Most jurisdictions should have some sort of limitation period as to how long you have to file a claim (I have seen anywhere from 1-3 years).
You have something on your side though - the truth. Tell it like it is. From my experience, people who lie to perpetrate fraud don't do so very well. They will usually not remember what they tell there adjuster and as such will be discovered.

what happend in the accident. like what was the damage to the other car. i think they are just trying to get some money, call your insurance agent and talk to them. good luck
insurance fraud sucks, i was a witness to a hit and run and they ended up trying to sue me since the actual car that hit them had fled.... took about 3 months before it went away
