Is it a steel or aluminum pan? And is the dipstick on the front of the engine or on the side by the timing cover?

You should be able to use either Y7 or Y8. Y7 is steel, Y8 is aluminum but either should work.

I have yet to test that, but since my oil pan hasn't leaked I can't. It is a good theory though.

Since OP got a fitting oil pan, I'd like to expand the conversation a little.

Is there any benefit to aluminum or steel? Is one better than the other or is there trade offs for certain benefits?

Just curious, especially in cases like this where a person has the choice available being both fit.

I cannot confirm both pans fit but the aluminum Y8 pan looks more well made than the stamped steel Y7

I guess I should have worded that better. Y7 and Y8 are definitely interchangeable. The blocks, crank and rods are identical. The should part had more to do with those pans working on an OBD2 D15B.

Steel Rusts, aluminum will crack or break if something hits the pan instead of simply denting. Also the aluminum is much more susceptible to stripped threads for the drain plug. All Things considered I prefer the steel pan.

As stated above I think the Y7 pan is better in most cases, but either pan should last fine if you're not going places you shouldn't be with a Civic.
