Manual transmission hard to put in reverse
2002 civic lx 232000
It's difficult to find out in reverse. It takes a few try's but once in reverse, it works as it should.
What causes this issue? How do I go about diagnosing? Can I fix it myself?

They are all kind of hard?
I usually stop, get in 3rd, go to reverse.
They are straight cut and non synchronized gear, sometimes it's just not in the right position.

Just reverse is difficult. I try another gear before reverse and still it's difficult. I asked a mechanic and he said it's the clutch. Either worn or full of oil. Does that sound correct?
Normally as it wears you gotta just go to 1st gear first, then back to reverse and visa versa. Or you gotta just roll the car or let it roll a lil then it'll go in.
