Anyone that has insight into this, I would greatly appreciate your feedback.
The rear passenger seat belt behind the driver seat on my mom's 2012 25k CRV tore. I say "tore" because that it was it looks like (see pics below). There was NOT however, an event in which anyone witnessed this happen. My mom rarely travels with rear passengers - and when she does, they are my 10 and 7 year old nieces. This CRV is in mint condition, no wear and tear anywhere. The belt in question looks brand new, except where it "tore". Further, the location of the tear seems to place it up somewhere behind the sidewall where the shoulder belt feeds up into the sidewall slot. There is no question of this belt having been physically torn by an individual - I am a big guy and I could not have done this after 40 Red Bulls. And were I able to torque this / tear it, then the belt would have been worthless anyway. Again, this belt looks brand new, no wear whatsoever. If someone had been physically able to pull it apart, it would have proven worthless in even a low impact crash.
So. I spent over 3 hours on the phone with the Honda dealer where the vehicle was purchased, then the recall center, and then finally Honda customer service. I admit, I am pretty disgusted with the service. Nobody was interested in seeing pictures, or had an inquiry about the nature of the tear. The service center did see it prior , and said it would be over $300 to replace it. And that it was not covered under warranty.
I admit the possibility that I may be missing something here. If so, please let me know. The only thing I can think of is that something happened up in the sidewall where the belt feeds in, out of sight. Maybe a mechanism pinched it? I have no idea. Pretty steamed that we have no travel mode for 4th of July weekend because we cannot safely transport all the passengers.
As you said, it looks tore or cut, to me. As stated, in either case its not covered under warranty.
It may however be warrantied after they take the panel apart and find something inside to cause it but I highly doubt anything behind it did it.
Had it been covered under warranty however, you still would be without a vehicle to transport everyone. Seriously, you dont have another 5 seater vehicle or cant just take 2 vehicles?
