How can you tell if it's a B16a tranny?
im going to assume that you mean that you mean the JDM first gen B16A motor. The JDM B16A cable trans are: Y1,S1,J1,YS1. There is a sticker on the trans case that says this.
I think the only for sure way to tell that you got a B16 tranny is to actually bolt it up and drive with it. Then you can see your rpms vs. mph and determine if you got a usdm or jdm tranny. The jdm transmissions of course would have tighter gear ratios, so cruising at 70 mph in 5th gear your rpm should be like 4500 or so. This is just my experience driving with J1 and S1 trannies.
Gearing
J1/S1/Ys1/Y1 JDM/USDM cable style trannys have differnt gearing ratios as well, they will all mate to any B-series block
and the JDM YS1 has the optional LSD
