Intermittent no start clicking noise
Have a 00 R with a intermittent no start with a clicking noise. Starter signal wire is not getting power at times. It is not the the starter cut relay or the main relay or the starter. Seeing if anyone has had this issue before and can help narrow done the problem. It will start at random times if not I can push start to make it run. Any help would be useful. Thank you
Did u check your terminals? I used to have that issue but my terminals were corroded but I couldn't tell until I removed the terminal and looked at the under side.
I'll dig back into her this weekend. Battery terminals are good. Cleaned them out. I'll run a battery test today and double check the grounds. I couldn't find the main ground under the dash if anyone has insight on the location of that one.
Do you have a multimeter?
The battery test may not yield great results. The battery may have enough juice to pass a test but not send enough amperage to turn the starter off. Instead you hear the solenoid clicking by turning the key but the car doesn't turn over. Simple test, swap battery with known good. (most common)
Second area to check:
-Main Relay
(again, simply test to swap)

I had an issue like this with my gsr recently. In my case it was the starter though. Intermittent starting, and then it wouldn't start unless I banged a wrench on the starter. Replaced the starter and fixed. But yea, if you're positive it's not the starter then ignore this comment.

I've been having start issues for a few months, I was convinced it was the battery. It got to the point where the car was starting slowly, or didn't make any noise, or getting the infamous single click. Got a new battery yesterday installed it, and started up a bit faster but eventually went back to a no start or slow start condition. I cringed and said, its the f'in starter. lol. Got out my test light and removed the signal wire to the starter, and had someone turn the key and sure enough there was a good signal to the starter. Plug the signal wire back onto the "S" terminal, has someone turn the key again and then I was tapping the starter with a hammer and it eventually turned over.
The current bad starter is a OEM Honda reman'd starter, only 6 years old, and has about ~75K on it. I feel like it shouldve lasted longer. My original starter lasted 12 years. I just bought a reman'd Honda starter from acuraoemparts for $352. *face cringe* But they told me it only has a 12month/12k mile warranty b/c I'll be installing it myself, BUT if I had it installed at a dealership and had proof of it, then he would warranty it for 36months/36k miles, which seems suspect to me. I called locally and the starter is ~$500+ for the reman'd but they told me regardless if I installed it myself or a dealer or whoever installed, it would have the 36month/36k mile warranty.
I'm not sure if they can do that, but I don't think I'll be ordering from them anymore. I've been a customer of their for almost 10 years maybe. And the bad starter on my R was ordered from them 6 years ago, and I remember the warranty being 36month/36k miles.
Sorry, I'm kinda ranting here, lol. I just don't like being told two different things about the warranty.

I too have this single click and nothing, just started yesterday. just making sure you're saying it was your starter before I go out and buy a new one. I do know it could be other things but since I haven't changed the starter since I got the car in '08 (and im sure it wasn't new then) I can make the educated guess that this is what the cause of the problem is.
solenoid contacts/plunger are the big wear out items, easily replaced:

bad grounds are another click suspect:

denso makes the stealership starter, no need to pay more than $165 or so:

I've been having this same issue. Sometimes it fires right up with the key like it should, other times I have to jump the starter. I found out at times when it won't start with the key, the starter signal wire is only getting 6 volts. Here's the worse part is tracing the wiring I found good battery voltage all the way until I plug in one leg of the wiring. I think internal resistance in that leg lowers the voltage on the whole circuit to only 6 volts at times. I've cleaned and replaced ground, still does it. I'm going to bypass the signal wire in the problem area to see if that eliminates all problems.
I just put in my new reman'd starter from Honda yesterday. Paid $365+ which includes $30 core charge. Starts up just fine now. I can finally put my hammer back into my toolbox, lol.
