I searched the internet high and low for a clue about this issue and found very little info. I have a 2005, 4 cyl. accord with manual transmission and when I shift from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3 the car bogs down for a second before starting to pull. Very, very annoying, especially when trying to take off quickly. It's like the car loses power when it needs it the most, right after shifting and getting back on gas. Some things I noticed... When I first start the car in the morning and take off it won't do it for the first 3-4 minutes but as soon as it's warmed up it's back at it. Also, it's more pronounced when trying to do a quick shift, when shifting at more than 2500RPM and when shifting while driving uphill. For example, If I'm at the light and I start slowly and very gradually accelerate it won't do it, but if I want to do a quicker (read normal) start it hiccups right after shifting into 2nd. I have to shift very slowly and hold the clutch in for a full second longer in order to avoid it. I've driven manual tranny cars almost exclusively for the past 15 years and never had a problem like this. This car doesn't have electronic throttle control or a clutch delay valve which seem to cause similar issues in other cars. Also no codes and otherwise rides very well. It's been well maintained and only has 85K on it.

 

So is this more of an RPM issues.....meaning it only happens once the car is warm (normal op temp) and between the rpm's of x and y?

Tune up items? Not really heard of on these but maybe an EGR passage issue......

 

No I don't think it's RPM related, it's just more obvious when shifting at higher RPM. Example.. just this morning on my way to work I was in the acceleration lane, completely stopped and waiting for an opening to merge onto the freeway. So when I saw one in the mirror I stepped on it, shifted into second around 3500 RPM, reengaged clutch, stepped back on gas and there it was, a hesitation that lasts maybe half a second but during which the car seems to be completely shut off and then comes back to life. It's similar to that little jolt when push starting the car, when the engine starts after releasing the clutch pedal. I have developed diferent techniques to deal with this..keeping my foot slightly on the gas while shifting, tapping the gas on upshifts, shifting at low RPM etc... My previous car was an '01 Altima and the manual transmission in that car felt way better than in my Accord. I also read on a BMW forum that this issue is normal and caused by a dual mass flywheel which my Accord apparently has.
