Replacing CV Axle Driver's side need some help
Okay, I was able to remove the old broken CV from the driver's side of my 1995 Honda Civic DX. It seems like I probably don't have it seated into the tranny all the way, I've pushed on it and put everything back together but once I put it into 1st and try moving it just slips out of gear, no nasty grinding just feels like it dropped into neutral, and I let off the accelerator as soon as it slips, trying to push the CV in again just repeats the above. Are there any simple but important things that I may be overlooking? Like indenting the edge of the outer axle nut which I haven't done yet because I wanted to make sure everything was working properly first. I'm assuming that the splines are lined up since it is engaging 1st for a few seconds and not grinding? Should I give it some taps with something protecting the end inside the rotor to jar it in, I'm guessing the ring I've been reading about isn't snapping into place properly on the other end. Also replacement is a Duralast Gold CV that measures up to the old one, only difference is the ABS ring, old one didn't have it. Thanks in advance for any help.
See great axle installation link in the FAQs sticky. You'll find many excellent tips there.
In brief, insert the ends of the axle into the hub and as deep as possible into the transmission. Then use the weight and momentum of the knuckle/hub in a quick swinging motion to lock the end of the axle into the differential.

Take the lower ball joint off. Everything else stays put together. Swing the knuckle out then back in to moderately slam the axle into the transmission. This is based on having the inner joint slide all the way closed until it hits bottom and pushes the axle into the transmission. Be careful not to over-extend the inner joint while doing this because it will fall apart inside if pulled out much past what the boot is comfortable with.
When the axle is properly engaged you won't be able to move it out of the transmission by hand.

I have a friend coming by to give me a hand in a while, always helps to have someone else around. Thank you for the tips, much better than ones saying whack it with a hammer or something. lol.
