94 Civic Rear Drum Conversion Kit - In a pickle !
I've read through a few forums, FAQ, and watched 2 YouTube videos. Frankly, I'm not very car savvy. I know how to do minor things but nothing major, I've changed my own rotors and pads before so I'll cut to the chase here's my issue: I understand there's no way to get rear backing plates anymore and I need to convert my rear brakes (I got a good shop in town that will do it for me). They want me to bring them the parts and obviously I want to bring them the right parts. In reading the few posts that I did, it was a little too tech specific for me, things like "Buy this assembly but make sure you use the right Integra Si cables, etc." and I really have no frame of reference for that. So I wanted to ask if someone could basically just lay me out a list of parts that I need to purchase so when I bring them these various parts that I buy, they are ready to do the job without missing any parts. Assume I know very little about brake systems. I am learning, but I don't know a lot. I'm obviously trying to get this done as cheaply as I can, because the labor will cost me enough and figured you guys would also be able to recommend the cheapest way to get parts. I want to go with good working parts, of course.
Thanks !
Thanks !

You will need as a bare minimum the rear spindles, hubs, brake calipers, flex hoses from any '92 - '00 Civic or '94 - '01 Integra (except Type R) with rear disc brakes. As well as parking brake cables from a '92 - '95 Civic with rear disc brakes. I think you can use parking brake cables but they don't fit as well. It's best to buy complete trailing arms with everything still attached as it's next to impossible to get the torx bolts out of the hubs where they mount to the trailing arms.
If you have a jack, jack stands, and tools, you can do this yourself; especially if you've done brake pads and rotors before (I recommend doing these at the same time btw). it honestly doesn't take very long.
like 94EG8 said, find someone selling the complete rear trailing arm section, pick up some e-brake cables (I bought new '95 Si's when I did mine: 47560-SR3-933 and 47510-SR3-933. Its your brakes; spend a few extra dollars and get new ones) http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...=PARKING+BRAKE
If I remember right, its just 6 bolts per rear trailing arm, plus a few little 10mm's for the cables.

Can someone suggest a decent priced Trailing Arm Assembly ? I don't know how they price generally so I don't know if Im getting ripped off or not.
Also, I did find a 95 Honda DX and 93 Accord being parted, if I can possibly get the rear backing plates will they fit my '94 Civic ?

94-01 integra rear trailing arms/ disk brakes usually sell for no more than 175 around my area. If you're lucky enough, find a junk yard and pull it out yourself.
This seems like the best deal, what do you guys think ?

pretty much all you need is the rear trailing arms, brake lines, and e-brake cables. I did my swap 2 years ago and am still using the stock 30/40 prop valve with no issues. I paid $150 for my RTA's. I disassembled them, got them sand blasted and powder coated for 80 bucks, then picked up the rotots/pads/brake lines from a vendor here on the forums. (importrp I believe). I also picked up rebuilt calipers at the same time from the same vendor.
look for part outs on the classifieds and also on craigslist.
This should work, but its more than what I would spend. 94 01 Acura Integra Rear Disc Brake Suspension Lower Arms Civic CRX | eBay

You don't need the master cylinder if you're only swapping the front brakes. The prop valve is different but you're unlikely to notice it (the correct one comes from a '92 Si hatch. PM me if you really want one)
'94 DX may work. '92 - '95 CX/VX will definitely work. Some of those Civics had larger rear drums than others. Accord definitely wont work. You may be able to get a used set shipped to you from a southern junkyard as well.
It's priced higher than I'd pay.

I have a 94 DX, found a 95 DX with rear backing plates. In my best assessment it will fit. I sure as hell hope I can get it Im really not looking forward to doing trailing arms, E brake and the brake lines.
Those backing plates will fit.
