Ok, so I'm doing research only. I don't have an actual CRX yet, but I plan on getting a shell soon, as I have plans.
One, obviously, is the possibility of using the rear awd cradle assembly from a 1g dsm.
Now, I've seen an awd del sol that used the rear from a CR-V. That's fine and dandy, but how much power can that hold, really?
I'm from the dsm crowd, so Im more comfortable using parts from that side.
I want to build a crx if feasible, because of how light they are. 400hp is rocket ship territory, and awd would mean hook and go.

At this point, I don't have access to a crx, so if someone could post the rear underside of one, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

 

Pretty sure you can't since dsm's turn clock-wise and B,D,F,H are counter-clock-wise.

 

DSM reliable? Lol, must have alot of parts cars.

CRV rear ends are pretty weak, that's because they have Realtime 4WD, and not AWD.
Besides that, the B20 is too underpowered once the 4WD engages to do any damage.

I dont see no mention of a CRV rear end in this article. Though the dont say, I'm sure it's obvious.

 

They say Honda AWD differential.

Either the civic AWD or the crv version.

Most likely civic because it looks different than the crv one.

They both handle power well enough.

 

Uh, where did you get the dsm is reliable part? Which they are, just like every other car that you don't abuse, and do routine maintenance on. Even Yugos.
The reason I suggested dsm was because it's a proven packaged unit. Big power awd cars launch like rockets with them in fat girl cars(talons, and eclipses, which are heavy as ****), so I'd assume a tiny crx with a modest build would be no problem. Plus cheap.
I'm also not sure if I'll use a Honda power plant. I might use an ecotec, or 4G63,or even a SR20, or even stuff an LQ4 in it, idk(last one is a pipe dream). As I said before, I like the crx because it's tiny, light, looks halfway decent for a hatch, has a **** load of parts for the chassis, and would be a killer sleeper. But I would like awd. If not, I'll move on before cutting up a perfectly good car. Thanks.

 

How much power? Are they relatively easy to find?

 

I was thinking they used parts from a Honda Integra ZXi, since those year EGs and DCs are interchangable.

Never said DSMs are reliable... And Especially not a 1-2gen..

No, not really. But next to a CRX, or any other tiny hatch, they're fat girls.

Well, I would, but: 1.most of them are waaaay too expensive, or clapped out. The 2g Eclipse and Talons are usually $4500-$5500.I'm not paying that. 2. They're not as light as I want them to be. 3.They've been built up too much, so they're boring. 4.I like weird builds. 4. Screw purists.

 

$5000 is too much?

How much do you think it will cost to buy the entire drivetrain from a DSM?
How much do you think it is going to cost for all the custom fab work to make it fit in a CRX shell?

...and that doesn't even include any time and labor for the mechanical and the electrical.

 

Cheaper and easier choices for a lightweight AWD DSM build. Mirage, Cyborg, or Colt.

I'd love to have and build an EVO 3 or 5, but frankly, I dont trust DSMs, and I dont wanna go threw all the trouble to switch power plants.
An old buddy of mine loves his 1g Eclipse/Laser, but he used to work on it all the time, and he was scared to beat on it. Basically, he drove it like a Granny. Smh

 

If you have to ask if you can custom fabricate something it usually means you either cannot do it yourself or likely cannot afford it.
